Chester Zoo, probably the number 1 zoo in the UK and the largest, is founded in 1931, measuring 51 ha at the moment. It is vast, with a total surface of 151 ha, including the parking area. The zoo was based on the Hagenbeck system and is developping in a stady way. Recently the Orang aviary (realm of the red ape) was struck by a huge fire en totally destroyed.

The stock has over 20.000 animals in 450 species. The zoo is a real must see, if you like zoos.
